For Immediate Release

March 17, 2017

Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation, Treaty 6 – Kevin Seesequasis released the following statement today on being nominated for re-election to the Council of the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation:

“Once again, I am deeply honoured and tremendously humbled by the incredible support from our community.

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to Darci Cameron and Rachel Seeseequasis for nominating me, and to our community members for their continued guidance, and their confidence in me as I seek the privilege of leading our Nation for a second term.

This election marks an important step forward as our Nation continues to realize and assert our sovereignty. Since 2002, we have had our own Election Act. We are an independent band. We have determined our own path. We have set our own priorities.

It is through asserting our inherent right to self-determination as Indigenous peoples that we will continue to create the climate for success and the economic prosperity desired by so many in our community.

In the coming days, I will present my plan to our membership. As always, I am excited at the opportunity to engage with you all on the issues that matter in our day-to-day lives. As we venture on this path, I invite you to join me and continue moving forward together!

Kininaskomitinawaw.”
